Arc-hive

An open source digital platform on art with a focus on biomedia

Digitization Workshop

Location: Royal Belgium Institute of Natural Sciences – Brussels, Belgium.

From September 06th to September 08th.

From September 6 to 8, the second digitization workshop of the project was held at the Royal Belgium Institute of Natural Sciences in Brussels. If the first edition —held at the end of February— was entirely online, this time the meeting took place in a face-to-face format, including visits to the various collections, galleries, cabinets, taxidermy warehouse and workshops, and the whole ‘behind the scenes’ of the museum. Project partners participated in the event to broaden their knowledge of the different stages of a digitization process, but the meeting also opened-up the possibility to explore together how photogrammetry can adapt to the challenges posed by works based on living materials and what are the achievements, obstacles and conceptual dilemmas that have emerged in the digitization process during this first half of the project.

Some of the Arc-hive objectives include:

▪ Ensure cross-sectoral professional training and exchange of knowledge and practices on digitization and conservation between museum professionals and those working in bio-art field.

▪ Digitize a relevant number of artworks and collection items, providing also additional information and context through various digital formats.

▪ Defining and publishing core standards and protocols for digitization of bio-art.
