m/other becomings – exploring the notions of m/otherhood and reproduction under the posthuman condition was a hands-on week-long workshop in a series of workshops that are part of the project m/other becomings. The workshop developed over the course of one week and was focused on themes of care and mothering.

m/other becomings cultivates intergenerational and multispecies methodologies, makes space for the investigation of domestic resistance practices, and probes technologies of reproduction, resilience, and recuperation. These practices manifest as durational collaborations between experimental cultural institutions, artists, and thinkers. m/other becomings is a collaboration between Laboratory for Aesthetics and Ecology (DK) (lead organisation of the institutional network), The Association for Arts and Mental Health (DK), Kultivator (SE), Art Lab Gnesta (SE), and Bioart Society (FI).

The objective of the m/other becomings workshop was to take a closer look at the technologies and politics of the maternal. What happens when these are unleashed from the affective and economic structures of heteronormative reproduction, from natality, and even from species’ genealogies? The workshop investigated junctions and leaky borderlands between motherhood and otherhood. It aimed to provide a good mix of hands-on and theory and enough time for discussions by shifting activities between hands-on wet-lab sessions, lectures, presentations, and interventions.
